- Field selected for seed production should not have been sown with the same crop in the previous year.
- Select well drained and fertile land.
Isolation:
- Keep a distance of 100 meters for foundation seed production and 50 meters for certified seed production from other varieties.
Sowing time:
- Sow immediately after the monsoon begins, or in the first week of July.
Seed rate and spacing:
- Seed rate: 10-12 kg/ha is sufficient.
- Spacing: 60 cm x 20 cm
Fertilizer dose:
- Apply 20 kg Nitrogen, 40 kg Phosphorus and 20 kg Potash per hectare at the time of sowing.

- Treat the seeds with Thiram or Carbendazim @ 3 g/kg seed.
Storage:
- Dry the seeds to 10-12% moisture content before storage.
- Store the seeds in gunny bags or cloth bags.
