ललित साहित्य म्हणजे एक प्रकारचे कुठल्याही विषयावरचे मुक्तचिंतन, ज्यात भाषिक शैली महत्त्वाची ठरते. या साहित्यप्रकाराचा जीव (scope या अर्थाने) कवितेपेक्षा मोठा आणि कादंबरीपेक्षाही लहान असतो. भाषेचा वापर सौंदर्यपूर्ण असतो. ललित लेखन म्हणजे लघुनिबंध होय.
